In 1957 Orchestra of Karakalpak folk instruments was founded by Honored Artist of Karakalpakstan and Uzbekistan A.Sultanov under the Teleradio Committee of the Republic of Karakalpakstan. In 1975 “Song and dance ensemble” became an independent ensemble from orchestra. People’s Artists – A.Atamuratova, S.Mambetova, Honored Artist of Uzbekistan B.Karimova, People’s Artist of Karakalpakstan B.Utepbergenova, T.Kurbanov, Honored Artists of Karakalpakstan K.Nittullaev and T.Palymbetov have been worked in the ensemble over the years.
From the moment of foundation of the ensemble, a number of prominent artists – Honored artist of Uzbekistan and Karakalpakstan N.Muhammeddinov, M.Kamalov, Honored artist of Uzbekistan H.Turdikulov, Sh. Pakhradinov, Honored Artist of Karakalpakstan Z.Abdikalikov, Honored Worker of Culture in Karakalpakstan I.Rafikova, Honored Worker of Culture of Uzbekistan S.Matmuradov, People’s Artist of Karakalpakstan S.Abdijamalov and U.Doshboyev have headed. Today, artistic director of the “song and dance” ensemble is the Honored worker of culture of Uzbekistan S.Matmuratov.
Main activity of the ensemble is to conserve, develop and maintain Karakalpak national folk songs and dances. Many Karakalpak folk songs and dances of the ensemble are preserved in the “Golden Fund” of Uzbekistan Teleradio Company. The members of the ensemble participate in many state events. Songs and dances performed by the ensemble are aroused great interest not only by local people, but also by foreign guests.
