“Uzbekistan” song and dance ensemble of the creative union of the artistic collectives of Uzbekistan is one of the oldest art communities in our country. This ensemble was founded in 1936 under the leadership of well-known composer Tukhtasin Jalilov. One of the main goals of the ensemble was to develop and promote Uzbek national music, singing and dance art, to further strengthen the customs and traditions of Uzbek people. The ensemble had a task to popularize the traditional singing art and to introduce this kind of art into the cultural life of the Uzbek people. In a short time, these tasks began to find their creative solution. Since 1968 “Uzbekistan” song and dance ensemble has gained great success with the name of “Shodlik”. Moreover, the ensemble won the Gold Medal at the International Festival of Young People and Students.
In different periods various well-known artists – Gavhar Rahkimova, Hakim Nishonov, Nabi Halilov, Muhammadjon Mirzaev, Sayfi Djalilov, Mirsodik Tojiyev, Dilafruz Jabborova and others led in the ensemble. Famous balletmasters (choreographers) Isakhor Okilov, Akbar Muminov and Shokir Akhmedov made a great contribution to the development of the creative activity of the ensemble. The ensemble performed best examples of Uzbek dance not only in Uzbekistan, but also in foreign countries. In 1997 “Shodlik” dance and song ensemble renamed with “Uzbekistan” dance and song ensemble and People’s artist of Uzbekistan Kodir Muminov began to lead the ensemble. Kodir Muminov directed his work to reveal the creative potential of the singers, musicians and dancers of the ensemble. New concert programs created by the artistic director and chief choreographer K.Muminov raised the professional level of the ensemble and they gave the creative achievements in the period of Independence.
Today, “Uzbekistan” song and dance ensemble participate in the cultural programs of many public events, especially in the Independence Day and Navruz Holiday. The rich spiritual world of Uzbek people is reflected in the songs of the ensemble by the preserving and developing traditions. Under the leadership of KodirMuminov a number of famous artists work in “Uzbekistan” song and dance ensemble, such as People’s Artist of Uzbekistan Saida Mansurxodjayeva, Honored Artists of Uzbekistan – Feruza Azatova, Nigina Nigmatova, Gulishod Abdiyeva, Dildora Yokubova, Ngarxon Nazarova, winner of “Nihal” prize Sehriyo Mirzayeva and others. In May of this year, members of “Uzbekistan” song and dance ensemble took part in cultural days of Uzbekistan in Tajikstan and in cultural events of Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Astana city of the Republic of Kazakstan.
